About the event
For live-streaming: click here. Dear Freedom Rider is my newest work. It is an atonal classical choral piece built on a 13-tone row featuring small vocal ensemble, piano and solo cello. The vocalists wrote letters to the Freedom Riders as if they could have direct conversations with them and I extracted words from their letters to create the libretto for the piece. (Side bar: It you don't know what atonal mean or if you've heard of a tone row, just know this won't sound anything like my gospel compositions. You'll not likely go away humming it. But I think you'll find it intriguing.)
