A classical setting of the spiritual, "We are Climbing Jacob's Ladder" for solo voice and piano, this work was commissioned by the Negro Spiritual Scholarship Foundation based in Orlando, Florida.  Available in high, medium, and low voice with colorful piano accompaniment, the first verse provides a statement of the original melody in the voice with later embellishments weaved into the fabric of the composition.  New melodic material and text make this more than an arrangement.  It is at times whimsical and climaxes as the singer soars to declamatory heights.
